Bloomington summer youth musicals hit stage

Bloomington’s youth summer musicals are “Footloose” and “Seussical Jr.” The musicals are produced by Bloomington Community Education.


“Footloose” will be performed at 7 p.m. July 25-28, and 3 p.m. July 28 in the Jefferson High School auditorium, 4001 W. 102nd St.

One of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory, “Footloose” celebrates the wisdom of listening to the next generation with a warm heart and an open mind. The show features more than 50 middle and high school students as cast, musicians and crew with direction by Natalie Schmit and Gaby Schmit.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors, and are available at the door one hour prior to each performance. 

A preview performance for seniors is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 24. Tickets for the senior preview show are $5 and can be purchased at the door starting at 9 a.m.

Seussical Jr.

“Seussical Jr.” will be performed at 7 p.m. July 19-21 and 2 p.m. July 21 in the Oak Grove Middle School Auditorium, 1300 West 106th St.

Favorite Dr. Seuss characters - from Horton the elephant to the Cat in the Hat - will spring to life onstage in 'Seussical Jr.,' a fantastical, colorful, musical extravaganza. The show features more than 45 elementary and middle school student performers under the direction of Erika Sasseville.

Tickets are $7 and available at the door one hour prior to each performance.
